Your Living Will
A Living Will is the document that you use to make your desires known as to medical treatment that you desire in the event of an accident or a severe medical condition. Many times, such a Living Will gives guidance to our spouse or appointed power of attorney to make certain that our desires are met.
For example, if you were to be involved in a severe auto accident and were so incapacitated as to not be able to make medical of financial or legal decisions, your Living Will defines your treatment desires and wishes as well as at what point you wish for extraordinary effort ot be discontinued in the event of cerain circumstances, such as 'brain death'.
Such a document gives the medical providers and your survivors clear direction as to how you wish to be treated in the event of your incapacitation. It only is effective while you are living and is superceded by your Last Will and Testament at the time of your death.
